Hotel Saranac Ephemera
Collection of ephemera created for fictional grand opening of Hotel Saranac on July 1, 1927.
Summary: The class brief tasked me with creating a collection of ephemera; stationary, a notepad, business card, post card, and more. I chose the Hotel Saranac, which opened in the late 1920’s. I started my process with researching the history of Hotel Saranac, architecture, and it’s original design. I sketched out ideas based on the 1920’s and 30’s style. I was most drawn to the art deco style with geometric sleek line work.
The redesigned logo for Hotel Saranac was based off the Art Deco style of the late 1920’s and 30’s. The hotel was built from deep red brick, I decided to use the triadic complimentary colors of a deep blue and golden yellow. I implemented this logo and other versions throughout the ephemera collection.
